It’s very uncommon for anyone to see me using protein powder in my recipes. I much prefer to get my protein from whole foods instead of in powder form. However, I do love the idea of being able to add something to a recipe to give it an added protein boost! So, I thought, why not make my own plant based and gluten free protein powder out of whole foods? This protein powder can add a little over 7 grams of protein per serving to whatever you’re choosing to add it to and is made completely from whole food sources – think nuts, oats, and seeds. Want to try it for yourself? Check out the recipe, it’s so quick and easy!
Meal Prep
Make this do-it-yourself protein powder on the weekend and have enough of it to consume all week long! One recipe will provide you with 12 servings of protein to add to smoothies, bars, and more. Store this powder in an airtight container in the fridge when you’re not consuming it.
What Equipment Do I Need?
- High Speed Blender or Food Processor
- Measuring Cups/Spoon
- Air-tight Storage Container
Ingredients

- Gluten Free Rolled Oats
- Flax Seed Meal
- Chia Seed
- Sliced Almonds
- Shelled Hemp Seeds
- Unsweetened Cacao Powder
Substitutions
Please keep in mind that any substitutions in this recipe will affect the protein content!
- Sliced Almonds – You’re welcome to replace this with a different kind of nut but I would recommend sticking to ones that are softer so they more easily become a powder, like walnuts.
- Seeds – If you’d like to replace any of the seeds with a different kind, you can.
- Cacao Powder – If you’d prefer to leave it as plain, you can omit the cacao. You can also add a teaspoon or two of cinnamon for an added flavor boost.
