Gluten Free Crispy Sesame Broccoli Recipe

Crispy Sesame Broccoli

This recipe gives your normal roasted broccoli a major flavor boost! It’s super crispy from the ground cashews and uber tasty from the savory sauce. Of course, it’s also plant based and gluten free! This broccoli is great as a crowd-pleasing appetizer or a delicious side to lunch or dinner. Don’t settle for plain broccoli – liven it up with this flavorful recipe!

Fresh, Not Frozen

I am normally a huge proponent of frozen veggies as they are typically cheaper and quicker to prep. Plus, they can be just as healthy as fresh veggies if they’re not in a premade sauce. However, for this recipe you’re going to want to go with fresh broccoli. Frozen broccoli won’t get as crispy as fresh would. You can buy two heads of fresh broccoli or two bags of fresh broccoli florets.

What Equipment Do I Need?

For this recipe, you will need a cutting board and knife if you are buying heads of broccoli. You will also need two mixing bowls – one for making your sauce and the other for mixing the broccoli in. A baking sheet and parchment paper or silicone baking mat is needed for roasting the broccoli. Lastly, you’ll need a blender or food processor to grind the cashews.

Ingredients

  • Fresh Broccoli
  • Corn Starch
  • Whole Cashews
  • Gluten Free Hoisin Sauce
  • Tamari
  • Maple Syrup
  • Roasted Sesame Seeds

Substitutions

  • Cashews – You can use gluten free breadcrumbs instead but they may not hold their crunch as well as the cashews
  • Tamari – Instead of tamari, you can use gluten free soy sauce or coconut aminos.
  • Maple Syrup – If you aren’t vegan, you may use honey instead. Another option is agave nectar.
