Dry January Mocktail Series – Mocktail #1: Espresso Martini (Non-Dairy)

Non-Alcoholic Espresso Martini

As we head into January, I thought, what better time to release a mocktail series? January is a common time of year to go dry as part of the new year, but all of these mocktails can be had at anytime of year. I prefer to be soberish 365 days a year by cutting back on my alcohol intake and only saving it for my favorite drinks (like really good champagne). All this to say, enjoy this series, but feel free to make these any time of year and make sure to check out some of my other mocktail recipes under the delicious drinks tab!

What Equipment Do I Need to Make This?

All of the mocktails I make are pretty simple, so there aren’t any crazy pieces of equipment needed. For this recipe, you will need a cocktail shaker. We just received a true boston shaker from the holidays and I would definitely recommend it if you don’t have one!

Ingredients

  • Chilled Decaf Espresso – The chilled piece of this is very important because if you use hot espresso, it will cause the ice to melt and water down your martini. I prefer to use decaf as well because I don’t want to be up all night, but if it doesn’t affect you, feel free to use caffeinated. Lastly, you may be like, 1.35 fl oz of espresso? That’s weirdly specific. I used my Nespresso machine to make the espresso and that’s the amount it brews. However, you don’t need to be this exact. 1 1/2 ounces or slightly less is totally fine!
  • Non-Alcoholic Coffee Liqueur – I used the Beckett’s ‘27 brand as I really like the flavor of it. I tried it on its own, and it’s great even like this! There are also other brands out there that you can try as well.
  • Maple Syrup
  • Unsweetened Vanilla Oat Milk

Substitutions

  • Maple Syrup – You could also use honey or agave nectar in this recipe. Just be mindful that honey tends to be thicker than maple syrup, so you may want to make a honey simple syrup instead.
  • Unsweetened Vanilla Oat Milk – You can use any non-dairy milk you’d prefer for this. The creamier the milk, the creamier the mocktail.
