This is a great quick breakfast for the winter time. It’s warming and cozy with its notes of chocolate and orange. It has delicious toppings and is hearty and filling. This oatmeal is plant based, gluten free, and nutritious!
What Equipment Do I Need?
As with the majority of my recipes, this is another simple one and therefore has no crazy equipment required. All you will need is some basic measuring tools, a small pot, and assuming you are adding the toppings – a cutting board and knife. So, not only is this recipe quick, but it’s also super easy! With how busy our lives can get, aren’t the easy, quick, and nutritious recipes the best ones?
Ingredients
Oatmeal
- Gluten Free Oats – Just basic gluten free oats is fine. However, be sure to check for that gluten free label as not all oats are certified gluten free.
- Flax Seed Meal
- Unsweetened Cacao Powder
- Maple Syrup
- Orange Juice – Fresh squeezed is preferred since it tends to have more nutrients but if you don’t have time for that or can’t find it at the store, normal is fine.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk
Toppings
- Orange Slices
- Craisins
- Dairy Free/Gluten Free Dark Chocolate Chips – I used the Enjoy Life brand as I typically do when a recipe needs chocolate!

Substitutions
- Maple Syrup – If you aren’t vegan, you can swap this out for honey. Another option is agave nectar.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk – Really any non dairy milk is great in this! You can swap this out for oat milk, macadamia nut milk, or even coconut milk.
- Toppings – For any of the toppings, you can swap them out with something else if you aren’t a fan of any of them. If you’d prefer cacao nibs instead of chocolate chips, this is also a great option.
