Watermelon Nojito – A Delicious Summer Mocktail

When I tell you this is THE perfect summer mocktail, please know that I mean it from the very depths of my soul. Well, maybe not that much, but it really is delicious and perfect for summer! This is a twist on the classic mojito cocktail with added watermelon, removed alcohol, and no refined sugar. So is it better than a regular mojito? You‘ll just have to make it and answer that question for yourself!

A quick note on alcohol – if you follow me on instagram or have seen any other of my mocktail recipes, you may think I never drink alcohol. This isn‘t the case. I‘m just mindful about when I do choose to drink alcohol. Why? Well obviously alcohol isn‘t good for you, but I still like to enjoy life and follow the age old motto of “everything in moderation.“ For me, alcohol falls under this motto. However, I‘ll definitely put a post out in the future about the hows and whys of mindful drinking, so keep an eye out for this!

Ingredients

The ingredients in this recipe are pretty simple, no fancy simple syrups or anything of the sort, but this doesn‘t mean that flavor is sacrificed.

  • Watermelon – In this recipe, the watermelon needs to be puréed. To make life easier, I bought pre-chopped watermelon from the grocery store then blended it in a blender. A food processor would work too. You‘re welcome to strain out the pulp from the purée, but I actually prefer to leave it for the added nutrition and flavor.
  • Maple Syrup – Instead of simple syrup or sugar, this mocktail contains maple syrup! Little tip – in most mocktail or cocktail recipes you can swap out simple syrup for maple syrup. Why you may ask? Maple syrup is not a refined or processed sugar like white sugar is!

Substitutions

  • Maple Syrup – If you don‘t have any maple syrup on hand, honey or agave would work just as well in this recipe.
  • Lime Sparkling Water – You can always use plain sparkling water or whatever other flavor you may like! Club Soda would work in this recipe too, I just prefer sparkling water.
  • Watermelon – I haven‘t tried it myself yet, but you could always swap out the watermelon for a different fruit. I‘m sure pineapple or strawberry nojitos would be great too!
  • Alcohol – If you would like to add alcohol to this, you can add 2 oz of white rum, which is the typical alcohol you would add to a mojito.

Watermelon Nojito

This is a delicious summer time mocktail that everyone will love! It‘s perfect for your next get-together and those who aren‘t looking to opt out of alcohol can always add rum!
